ONLY VEGAS/WHAT HAPPENS HERE, STAYS HERE
Equal parts exotic and bizarre; Las Vegas is the most inimitable tourist destination in the world. Everyone has their idea of what it is, what it isn't and everyone is wrong and right all at the same time. I had the pleasure of luring tourists to Sin City for 3.5 years. Here's a few of my faves.
MY ROLE:
Pretty much anything goes in Vegas. Except for 98.7% of the scripts you write for their brand. Not because they'd make the most experienced Liza Minnelli impersonator blush, but because in the 20 some odd years their agency (R&R Partners) has been working for them, they have seen, heard and had involuntary bodily reactions to damn near everything. So when you write something that sells, you know magic is real. In my time there, my partner and I wrote the brand's first LGBTQI+ "What happens, here stays here" spots, created a new season from scratch because 4 just wasn't enough and birthed a full-grown man with an unfortunate name. I was given enough slack in my leash to fully develop the look of the integrated campaigns we sold and put my stank on any and everything I raised my hand for.

MR. LAS VEGASDOTCOM
We were asked by our client to raise awareness that visitors of Las Vegas could not only see what Vegas had to offer on LasVegas.com, but book their travel there as well. A simple brief, that got answered with a simple solution. A story of a grown ass man with an eponymous burden. He happens to have the same name as our very popular website and is now being confused with it. And the benefits it offers.
Enter Mr. Las Vegasdotcom.
It was an asinine idea and a big ask to answer by a petite man in big round glasses who is very well versed in the art of mockumentary (our director, Bob Balaban. Google him. You know who he is.) And we got the job done in spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds. Site traffic and bookings jumped up and gave the client a high five. And we moved onto the next episode...err...challenge.
MY ROLE:
I worked closely with the art directors, set designers, cast, producer, DP and director to ensure our story felt 'somewhat' believable, didn't feel like a hard shill for site clicks and would entertain the masses at each level of our merry little funnel. My CD and I were/are both very big fans of Christopher Guest's films (most of which our director acted in), so our expectations that it feel akin to one of said films were pretty high. Bob did not fail. And so neither did we.

VEGAS SEASON
Nothing in Las Vegas is as it is anywhere else in the world. Worry is forbidden, nobody cares how you look so long as it's the other way and seasons are marked by rises in temperature instead of mythical characters and greeting card companies. It stands to reason that a city of this cultural aptitude would have its very own season. Vegas Season. When the only list in town that matters is the naughty one, the kids are left at home and more is always more.
MY ROLE:
I co-wrote the spots and designed/art directed the look and feel of the campaign at each level of the funnel from the logo and its animation to the wardrobe our talent wore and the way they carried themselves to the 'holiday catalog' and our PR stunt aimed at raising awareness for the season. Opulence with an err of cheekiness was the order of the season, and we brought it. White tigers and all. Huge thanks to photographer, Liz Von Hoene and her extraordinary team for helping us execute our vision.
